My Dear Jesus, I give myself to you as you have given yourself to me
I began attending daily Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the convent chapel almost every day after the invitation.
I spent four years in a school run by the Franciscan Sisters and each day paid a visit to Jesus during recess as often as I could. I came to know the Sisters of the Franciscan missionaries of Mary better, their way of life, their apostolic mission, their sacrifices and their joy. But in the year 1964 I came into contact with another Congregation, the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres. This became a problem for me as before me because these two Congregations with their unique charisms very appealing to me personally. At the same time, I was struggling between the choice of a married life or a Religious life.
I searched, prayed and discerned for more than four years. Since I am the eldest in a family of three, I had a hard time in getting permission from my dad and mum to join the Religious Life. Finally, with prayer and persuasion I got through.
As we all know, vocation is a calling from God waiting for our response. I tried to escape from his calling but in the end I gave in – God’s plan is the best for us as long as we receive it joyfully.
I entered the convent of the Sisters of St Paul de Chartres in Hong Kong in 1971 and I am now celebrating the 39th privileged year of being the companion of Jesus on my journey through life; of having Jesus waiting for me daily in the Tabernacle and knowing the happiness of receiving Jesus into my heart.
I am working now as a missionary in Australia - working in a Home for the Aged which is run by our Congregation. I began my career teaching little ones in Kindergarten and now I am serving the elderly.
What a big change in direction for me! But Jesus is still the centre of my life.
I am thankful for the gift of my vocation. “My Dear Jesus, I give myself to you as you have given yourself to me” is the prayer I pray often.
I am looking forward to the celebration of my golden Jubilee in 2022. I pray that I get the chance to enjoy this celebration in good health and with some members of my family and many good friends.
